Best Cornish Pasty Shops in Newquay

Most people love a good Cornish pasty, but how do you know where the good ones are? In Newquay and Cornwall you're surrounded by pasties to buy and eat - and these days most of them are good.

However, I've got my little favourites, which I'd like to share with you. Below are the best pasty shops in Newquay, they're the ones I'd go to - and have eaten from many times.

A genuine Cornish pasty contains certain ingredients (see a link below to a genuine cornish pasty recipe you can make at home) - all others are just pasties. All the shops will sell you Cornish pasties, as well as a large range of savoury pasties, sweet pasties and special one offs.

Remember though - if you try to eat any pasty outdoors in Cornwall, keep it hidden in the bag, keep your hand over the bag while you eat .... if you walk down the street with your pasty exposed, or wave it about in your hand ... the seagulls will have it.

Cornish Pasties Delivered

Cornish pasties delivered to your home, direct from Cornwall, are also increasingly popular.

What's Your Favourite Pasty Flavour?

Not all pasties are Cornish, Cornish pasties are made from a certain cut of meat, potatoes, swede ... and cooked from raw inside the pastry. What's your favourite pasty?

  • It has to be a Cornish pasty every time!
  • My favourite is a savoury meat pasty
  • My favourite is a vegetarian pasty
  • My favourite pasty is a sweet filling.
  • I've never had a pasty ... yet.
  • Shhhh, I don't actually like any pasties!

Peter Morris Pasties

Peter Morris Pasties are the real deal - a genuine Cornish pasty.  These hand made pasties are hot and tasty - and there's a large variety of sizes and flavours.

Unusually - and a welcome change - when you buy a Peter Morris pasty, it comes in a heat-retaining bag, with a foil inner layer, great for keeping your pasty hot until you want to eat it, fabulous if you're on Towan Beach and are taking hot pasties back to your family and friends on the beach.

Warrens Pasties

Warrens Bakery is a local Cornish bakery, that bake and sell Cornish pasties, as well as a large range of pasties and a Pasty of the Week.

There are two Warrens' shops in Newquay, one tiny one in the centre of town, one larger bakery (with a cafe) near to the main Post Office.

Warrens bakery server the full range of bread, cakes and sandwiches, all freshly made on the premises.  The larger bakery near to the Post Office has a cafe with an extensive, and very affordable menu.

Warrens do a Pasty of the Week, so there's always something different to try.  I like their genuine Cornish pasties, as well as their Pork and Apple pasties.  The last pasty I had from Warrens was a Pork & Rattler, which is a Cornish cider.

Warrens pasties are a good basic pasty, at a fair price, baked on the premises and hot.

Paulines Creamery

You can be forgiven for overlooking Paulines Pasties - they're not easy to spot in the window of Pauline's fabulous display of fresh cakes and other food goodies. But venture inside the shop and they serve hot pasties too.

These are quite simply a good honest pasty, served hot, at about £2.20 each. A reliable quality.

However, you might find it hard to buy a pasty at Pauline's once you've spent 2-3 minutes standing in awe at the windows, looking at their extensive and very keenly priced slabs of fresh cakes and gateaux (I'm partial to the Black Forest Gateaux). Now, in my little world I can't have a cake AND a pasty .... can I! So sometimes I just miss out on buying a pasty and get a slice of cake instead for the beach.

Presto Pasty

The Presto Pasty shop in Newquay is right in the town centre - it's part of a large chain of pasty shops so if you've been to one, then you've been to them all!

The shop itself is very small, but there are rarely queues and crowds so it does mean you'll get served quickly.

I used to love the Presto Pasty Spicy Chickpea & Potato pasty, but they changed the pastry recipe a few years back, so I've not tended to frequent them as often as I used to.  That said, the Presto Pasty shop will provide you with high quality pasties, hot and cold.

The Pasty Parlour

The Pasty Parlour is a Cornish pasty shop in Newquay that you could completely overlook because it's not quite on the main street, but just round the corner.  However, it's one that I always seek out.

I'm partial to a Pork & Apple Pasty - and the one they sell at the Pasty Parlour is really nice, so if I fancy a pasty and am passing, I'll always call in there ... and hope I'm not too late.

The Pasty Parlour bake their pasties on-site, so you sometimes have to wait for the next hot batch to be ready, but usually they've still got some hot ones.  They sell Cornish pasties as well as a large range of savoury and sweet pasties.  The shop is very small though and it's standing room only for 4-6 at the counter!

One tip ... watch out when you leave the Pasty Parlour, seagulls will be waiting to dive bomb you from behind if you expose too much of it from the bag!  One seagull had a piece of my last hot pasty!!
