The owner of The Camel Ski School in Rock is Charlie Toogood, who has been running the business for over 10 years - and in May 2013, he became a national hero.

On a sunny bank holiday weekend in Padstow, a privately-owned speedboat flipped over in the Camel Estuary. The occupants, a family on holiday from London, two adults and four children, were tipped into the water and the speeding boat was circling them - and mowing them down.
Charlie Toogood, of The Camel Ski Club was a hero - with a friend, they set off in another boat and managed to pull alongside the circling speedboat. Charlie Toogood leapt from one fast-moving boat to another, in order to shut down the engine of the speedboat, preventing further deaths from potentially occurring.
BSkyB Executive Nicholas Milligan and his eight year old daughter were killed in the accident; his wife and three other children received life-changing injuries.

The Camel Estuary is a tidal and gives access between Padstow and the Atlantic Ocean. At low tide there are some sand banks in the middle of the estuary. When the tide is right there is a ferry between Padstow and Rock as well as many boat trips, speedboat trips and sightseeing trips along the Estuary.
For those wanting a little more action, there are a number of water-based activity businesses in Rock, where small companies give personal tuition and help in a variety of adrenalin-junkie popular sports, as well as more genteel pursuits.
For kayakers, the section of the River Camel between and Tuckingmill Bridge and Penrose Bridge near Blisland is graded as Grade 2 for kayaking.
